Rudolph “ Rudy” Fleming, 79, passed away from a valiant battle with lung cancer on Friday morning, April 30, 2021. Rudy heard the Father’s voice and he answered his call to come home and rest from his labor on Earth and receive his heavenly reward.
Rudolph, affectionately called “Rudy” was born to the late Mr. Isaac Fleming and Mrs. Annie Mae McFadden Fleming Shaw on December 10, 1941 in Clarendon County, S.C.
Rudy received his education at Walker Gamble School. On September 12, 1962, he married the former Robertha Mae McDowell and with this union was blessed with five children.
At an early age he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a lifelong member of Oak Grove AME Church where he served as a trustee for many years.
Rudy was a hard worker and he did every job he held with dignity. He was employed with Santee Print, Barrineau Farms, Joe Singleton Construction, and McFadden Grading. Besides his love for working, Rudy was a loving husband and devoted family man. He would do everything he could to make sure that his family was taken care of. He especially enjoyed grilling for his family on the weekends and during the holidays. But most importantly, he loved teaching others how to grill like him.
Rudy was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Isaac Fleming, his mother, Mrs. Annie Mae McFadden Fleming Shaw, and a brother, Bishop. Joseph David Fleming, Sr.
Rudy leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 59 years, Mrs. Robertha M. Fleming, three beautiful daughters: Mauble (Donnie) Montgomery of Turbeville, SC, Rosa Lee (Levern) Flemming of Turbeville, SC, and Evelyn (Kevin) Green of Sumter, SC; two handsome sons: Willie McDowell of Florence, SC and Jimmy (Sonequa) Fleming of Lithonia, Ga., a granddaughter he reared as his own, LaQuasia Peay of Columbia, SC; two sisters: Christine Shaw of Lake City, SC and Pearlie Mae (Mike) Shaw of Gable; a brother: Robert Lee Johnson of Hollywood, Fla.; four sister-in-laws: Laura Fleming of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Bertell (Joseph) Roberson of Olanta, SC, Betty Jean McDowell and Lorraine Geralds of Myrtle Beach, SC; longtime friends, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Evans of Turbeville, SC; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
