John “Sonny” Cox was born on November 3, 1933 in Pamplico, South Carolina to Clyde Cox and Carrie McWhite Cox. He was the youngest of two siblings born to this union. Sonny Boy as he was affectionately called by family and friends, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Saturday night, December 12, 2020.

John was educated in the public school system of Florence County South Carolina (Pamplico). At an early age he received Christ and became a member of Mill Branch AME Church in Pamplico, SC.
