Annie Pearl Holmes

Florence, South Carolina

The late Mr. Ronald “Boy” Johnson Sr. and Annie Bell Brown Johnson welcomed their third child into the world on September 29, 1943, in Lake City, South Carolina; Ms. Annie Pearl Johnson. Annie Pearl entered the glory gates of heaven on September 25, 2020, a few days shy of her 77th birthday.


Annie Pearl was educated in the Florence County public school system. At an early age, she decided to leave the small town of Lake City to gain the greater heights of New Jersey where she met and married the love her life, the late Mr. Herbert Holmes in 1982. While living in New Jersey, Annie Pearl started a family of her own and began her religious journey with the Lord. She resided in Paterson, NJ for several years where she worked at Paid Prescriptions as a claim’s adjuster until her retirement.


After retirement, she merged back to South Carolina where she began her life as a full-time mother, grandmother, fearful warrior, community grandmother, and friend to many others.


Annie Pearl valued her family and friends and she enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed cooking, endorsing a great conversation about anything. “Pearl” loved fashion, especially her pearls, dolling herself up with her hair, nails, make-up, and accessories. Pearl enjoyed listening to quartet music, decorating her home, flowers, and watching her hit TV show, “Dancing Dolls”. Annie Pearl was an active member of New Hopewell Baptist Church in Darlington, SC.


In addition to her parents and loving husband, Annie Pearl was preceded in death by a daughter, Ms. Brenda Brown, and two siblings, Mrs. Ester Mae Graham, and Mr. Tim Johnson.


Left to cherish precious memories are her two daughters: Gail Brown and Laurie A. (Randall) Waiters; two sons: Eric (Martha) Holmes, and Faheem Forbes; eleven grandchildren: Terrell H. Brown, DeeAnna N. Tyre, Al Brown, Rodney L. McKenzie, Dontay J. Holmes, Asia C. McKenzie, Kwadasia K. Spruill, Kevin “Calvin” Black, Jaynaya Holmes, Cameron, and Cayden Forbes; nine great-grandchildren: Ya’Shira N. Tyre, Terrell M. Brown Jr, Devantea H. McKinney, Taylor L. McKenzie, Chance K. Egleton, Dontay J. Holmes II, Nicholas T. Brown, and Brielle P. McKenzie. Annie Pearl also had many siblings to cherish her memories; Elease Mickens, Sallie (AC) Gary, Eliza Richardson, Glory (Sam) Anderson, Jennette Fasion, Catherine Thomas, Janie (Rocky) Dickson, Roland Johnson Jr., Herbert Johnson, LeRoy Johnson, and David (Queen) Johnson. One aunt, Mary Graham, one uncle, JC Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous special friends.
